Before throwing anything away, I always look for things I can reuse elsewhere. In this case, an LED from a broken computer power supply. Perfect for adding a neutral light indicator on my 50 and it was green too. =) If you do this mod, don’t forget to add a resistor, otherwise you will burn out the LED.

Saturday, November 7th, 2009Rewind CRF50 Stator For Lights
Saturday, June 20th, 2009If you want headlights on your 50, besides the obvious pars list e.g. headlight, regulator, yada yada yada, you need a way to create electricity. You can of course buy a pre-wound stator for around $75 or you can diy for a fraction of the cost.
Now before you pop off the stator cover and flywheel, you will need to buy some magnet wire. I got mine on ebay from magnet*wire*usa. And, from what I have read online, 18awg and 65 turns seem to be the magic numbers, so that’s what I used. It cost a little over $20 for 200 feet which I hear is enough to wrap 2 stators.
Honda CRF50 Baja Completed
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009Here are some pics of the baja completed. The motor needs a little tuning and I need to shorten up some cables, but for now it’s pretty much done. =)
Z Wheels
Monday, March 30th, 2009For this build, I went with 8 inch Jincheng 2.5 rim halves that I had left over from my monkey project and Honda 71 Z50AK2 hubs which I found on ebay. In order to align the rear wheel with the CRF swingarm, I machined a 10.5-11mm spacer for the sprocket side and mounted the offset rim halves so that the wider side (valve stem side) was facing the drum brake.
Making progress…
Friday, January 30th, 2009I spent some time this week installing the Kitaco Rearsets on the CRF50. It took quite a bit of tweaking to fit these pieces due to the tight clearances between the kick start lever and swingarm. I think this is due to the kit originally being designed for the monkey, but in the end… it was worth it. =)
